Pune FC's spirited effort fell short as they went down 1-3 to Kingfisher East Bengal in an I-League Round-5 encounter at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, in Kolkata, on Wednesday.
The defeat was Pune FC's second consecutive in away games at Kolkata. They have five points, all from home matches.
Opting to attack right from the word go, Pune FC, beaten 5-1 by Prayag United in their last match, were in arrears when Nirmal Chettri (43rd minute) scored, but they did well to pull themselves back through Lester Fernandes in the first minute of added time of the first half.
The Kolkata side added two more goals through Togay Ozbey (65th minute) and Alan Gow (87th) to settle the issue and register their third win on the trot.
