The hot and humid conditions in Lucknow are taking its toll on the hockey players, who are undergoing intensive training for the Champions Trophy, with Dilip Tirkey being the latest to suffer from dehydration.

The ace full-back was admitted to hospital on Tuesday and discharged today after his condition improved, a hospital source said.

"Tirkey has recovered fully and has been discharged," he said.

The former India captain had also sprained his leg muscle during practice.

Another member of the hockey team Harpal Singh had to be admitted to the hospital after sustaining an injury on his head during practice on Tuesday, it is learnt.

The injury though was not serious and Singh was later discharged.

The training camp is being held at the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College grounds in Lucknow.

The players have been complaining of excessive humidity and there were reports earlier that the camp might be shifted to Bangalore. However, the reports were later denied by the authorities.

Some other members of the team including goalkeeper  Devesh Chauhan and captain Dhanraj Pillay also suffered bouts of illness earlier during the camp.

The team is scheduled to leave on August 10 for Amstelveen, Holland, where the Champions Trophy, which features hockey's elite teams, including Germany, Holland, Australia, Pakistan, Argentina and India, will be played.
