The much-awaited homologation of the Budh International Circuit (BIC), venue for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, is all but over with the FIA team, led by technical director Charlie Whiting, giving a thumbs up to the 5.14km race track.

According to a release issued by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) President, Vicky Chandhok on behalf of the promoters JPSI, Whiting, during the first day of his two-day inspection in Greater Noida on Thursday, was pleased with the way the circuit was shaping up.

"Formula One Race Director Mr Charlie Whiting visited the Budh International Race circuit today for a planned routine inspection," Chandhok said in the statement.

"He stated that the progress was more than satisfactory and exceeded expectations from when he last visited the site. He also expressed confidence that the inaugural Indian Grand Prix will be a huge success," he added.

However, the statement said that as a common practice for all new circuits, the physical issuance of Grade-I certification to the circuit, will be given a week prior to the main event to be held on October 30.
