Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the 10th game in a row in Sunday's 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid but Antoine Griezmann struck back at the other end to keep his side four points ahead of their cross-city rivals in La Liga.

Yet the Madrid derby draw only pushes Barcelona closer to winning the league title as second-placed Atletico now trail Ernesto Valverde's runaway leaders by 11 points, while Valencia climbed above Real into third after beating Espanyol 1-0.

Ronaldo followed his outrageous bicycle kick strike against Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday by breaking the deadlock in an entertaining contest in the 53rd minute.

He sent a cross from Gareth Bale crashing past Jan Oblak on the volley, hitting the target for the 20th time in 10 games.

Atletico quickly struck back with Griezmann tapping into an empty net in the 57th minute to complete an excellent team move which ensured that Diego Simeone's side avoided defeat away to Real in the league for the fifth consecutive season.

Barcelona lead the standings on 79 points after beating Leganes 3-1 on Saturday. Atletico have 68 while Valencia have 65 and Real are fourth on 64 after 31 games.

The Catalans will lift a 25th Liga title if they win four of their seven remaining games.

Dortmund bounce back to beat Stuttgart 3-0

Borussia Dortmund beat VfB Stuttgart 3-0 on Sunday to bounce back from last week's 6-0 defeat at Bayern Munich and boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Christian Pulisic, Michy Batshuayi and Maximilian Philipp shared the goals as Dortmund closed the gap on second-placed Schalke to one point and handed VfB Stuttgart their first defeat in eight games since Tayfun Korku took over as coach.

Stuttgart had the better of the opening exchanges but Dortmund went ahead in the 38th minute when Pulisic's attempted cross looped over Ron-Robert Zieler and into the net at the far post.

Batshuayi increased Dortmund's lead three minutes into the second half when he exchanged passes with Nuri Sahin and side-footed past Zieler for his seventh goal in nine Bundesliga games since joining on loan from Chelsea.

Pulisic was involved in the third goal in the 59th minute when he headed the ball to Philipp who scored at the second attempt after his first shot was stopped by Zieler.

Napoli keep title race alive with dramatic win over Chievo

Napoli missed a penalty and gifted their opponents a goal before scoring twice late in the game to snatch a 2-1 win over lowly Chievo on Sunday and keep the Serie A title race alive.

Napoli's title challenge appeared to be petering out after Dries Mertens saw his penalty saved early in the second half and Mariusz Stepinski put the Flying Donkeys ahead with 17 minutes left.

But substitute Arkadiusz Milik headed an equaliser with one minute remaining and Amadou Diawara grabbed the winner in the third minute of stoppage time with his first-ever Serie A goal to leave Napoli four points behind leaders Juventus.

Juventus, chasing a seventh successive title, lead with 81 points after their 4-2 win at Benevento on Saturday with Napoli on 77, Lazio and Roma on 60 and Inter Milan on 59.
