Michael Owen and Javier Hernandez scored second-half goals as Manchester United fought back to beat League One (third division) Southampton 2-1 in their FA Cup fourth-round tie at St Mary's on Saturday.

After Alex Ferguson rested several leading players, with Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov unused substitutes, Richard Chaplow blasted in an unstoppable shot in the last minute of the first half to have Southampton dreaming of a shock to match their 1976 Cup final victory over the same opponents.

But Premier League leaders United improved after the break. Owen headed the equaliser after 65 minutes and Hernadez tucked in the winner after substitute Ryan Giggs had cut out the home defence with a perfect pass.

Earlier on Saturday, holders Chelsea drew 1-1 at Everton and Crawley Town became the first minor league team into the fifth round for 17 years after they won 1-0 at Torquay to take their third league scalp in three rounds.
