Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal and inadvertently set up the other as Portugal ground out a 2-0 win over Wales on Wednesday to march into the Euro 2016 final.
The game had been billed as the ‘Battle of the Galacticos’ with Ronaldo up against his Welsh Real Madrid team mate Gareth Bale.
Ronaldo was seen consoling Bale after the final whistle, and he also congratulated the Welshman on his side's remarkable run in the competition.
Ronaldo has revealed what he said to Real Madrid team-mate Baleafter Portugal knocked Wales.
"I congratulated them on their run," Ronaldo said, having embraced Bale at the end.
"I wished them good luck and as for the rest I would rather not say."
The unified, and entirely predictable, message from both camps before the game was that the encounter in Lyon would be about "eleven v eleven" and not "Ronaldo v Bale".
Wales manager Chris Coleman said he was ‘immensely proud’ of his team after their hopes of reaching the Euro 2016 final were dashed.
The Welsh players stayed on the pitch after the final whistle to applaud their fans.
