Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah netted his first league goal since August 25 as the Reds thrashed Southampton 3-0 to make it six Premier League wins out of six and leapfrog Chelsea at the top of the table on Saturday.

An own goal by Wesley Hoedt started the visitors' misery in the 10th minute as Xherdan Shaqiri's shot hit Shane Long before bouncing into the net off the Saints Dutch defender and Joel Matip made it two with a header from a corner 11 minutes later.

Liverpool's Egypt forward Salah, who had failed to score in his last two league games, bundled home a Shaqiri free kick that came back off the woodwork in first-half stoppage time for his third goal of the season.

Southampton failed to mount a meaningful comeback after the break and the result leaves them languishing in mid-table, while Liverpool's perfect record puts them top on 18 points, two ahead of Chelsea who visit West Ham United on Sunday.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at home to promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Saturday, leaving them eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho's side, who had won their last two league games, took the lead in the 18th minute through Brazilian midfielder Fred, who drove home after a sublime short pass from Paul Pogba.

Wolves had looked nothing like a promoted team, playing confident and composed football and they got their reward with a finely worked goal.

Helder Costa got past Luke Shaw and slipped the ball back to Raul Jimenez who perfectly teed-up Joao Moutinho and the Portuguese midfielder fired into the top corner.

Sergio Aguero marked his 300th appearance for Manchester City with a familiar landmark goal to set the resurgent Premier League champions on their way to a magnificent 5-0 win at Cardiff City on Saturday.

Aguero helped City rebound in emphatic fashion after their worst performance of the season in the home Champions League defeat by Lyon as a typical sharp, close-range finish from Bernardo Silva's pass saw him notch his 205th goal for the club.

Aguero's close-range strike just after the half-hour opened the floodgates with Silva heading home three minutes later and Ilkay Gundogan firing home a glorious third before the break to guarantee Cardiff's winless league start continued.

City, then able to stroll as they extended their unbeaten league run to 12 matches, celebrated further when record signing Riyad Mahrez joined the party with two superb second-half goals, his first for the club.

Leicester City eased the pressure on manager Claude Puel by beating Huddersfield Town 3-1 on Saturday to leave the visitors rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

Leicester had lost eight of their last 12 league games but Puel finally had something to smile about as his side ran out comfortable winners at the King Power Stadium.

Huddersfield must have thought their luck was changing when Mathias Jorgensen fired them in front after five minutes. But the lead was short-lived as Kelechi Iheanacho brought the home side level on 19 minutes.

James Maddison put Leicester ahead on 65 minutes with a well-taken free kick before Jamie Vardy sealed all three points with a clever finish 15 minutes from time.

Newcastle United earned only their second Premier League point of the season after scraping a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace after the home side missed several chances and hit the woodwork in a scrappy affair on Saturday.

The result left Palace 11th on seven points from six games while the Magpies stayed 18th, ahead of bottom two Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town on goal difference after yet another lacklustre performance.

The home side dominated the opening half and twice came close through captain Luka Milivojevic, who tested Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka with a curling low shot before his floated free kick came off the post.

Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez directed an acrobatic overhead kick straight an Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey in the second half before Mamadou Sakho missed a sitter at the other end, heading wide from two metres after an Andros Townsend cross.

Watford held at Fulham after Mitrovic strikes again

Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic hit the target again as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 home Premier League draw against a Watford side left cursing too many missed first-half chances at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Watford's best start to a top-flight campaign had looked set to continue as Andre Gray's goal after 90 seconds, as he cashed in on poor Fulham defending, saw them take first-half command.

Javi Gracia's team, unchanged for the sixth league game, showed why they have been the season's revelation and looked set for a fifth win in six matches only to spurn several fine chances offered largely by inept home defending.

Yet Fulham were re-energised after the break with prolific Serbian striker Mitrovic becoming joint league top scorer with his fifth goal of the season in the 78th minute and almost grabbing the points with a late header that rattled the bar.
