Liverpool's crumbling defence of their Premier League crown continues

Nottingham Forest stunned champions Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday with a 3-0 Premier League thrashing that dented the Reds' title ambitions in Forest's first back-to-back league wins at Liverpool's ground in 62 years.

Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White sealed Forest's win to hand Arne Slot's men a shocking sixth defeat in their last seven league games and their biggest home league loss in more than a decade.

Liverpool plummeted to provisionally 11th in the table on 18 points, eight behind leaders Arsenal who host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Forest are 16th after their first away win of the season.

Murillo fired home from a corner that Liverpool failed to deal with in the 33rd minute. Liverpool argued that an offside Dan Ndoye was standing in goalkeeper Alisson's line of sight, after Virgil van Dijk's goal at Manchester City earlier this month was disallowed because Andy Robertson was in front of the keeper, but Saturday's goal stood.

In a nightmare start to the second half for Liverpool, Savona struck seconds after the break when Neco Williams cut back the ball from the byline for the Italian to fire past Alisson.

Forest sealed their victory in the 78th minute -- and sent scores of Reds fans heading to the exits -- when Alisson made a terrific save of Omari Hutchinson's shot, but the ball fell to Gibbs-White who struck from the centre of the box.

Forest won 1-0 at Anfield early last season, handing Liverpool their only home loss of their championship season.

Their win on Saturday could have been even more lopsided. Forest's Igor Jesus celebrated what he thought was his first league goal but it was chalked off for a hand-ball after a VAR review.

Liverpool, whose defeat piles more pressure on Slot, had their chances and took 21 shots to Forest's 15.

Barnes strikes twice as Newcastle edge Manchester City

Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes scored two goals in seven minutes as his side snatched a thrilling 2-1 home win over Manchester City to stop the visitors closing the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

With City's Erling Haaland chasing his 100th Premier League goal, both sides missed a slew of chances in a scoreless first half, Barnes wasting one in the first minute after Newcastle won the ball high up the field.

City coach Pep Guardiola was enraged when Newcastle defender Fabian Schaer left his foot in as City forward Phil Foden fired wide, but no penalty was awarded.

With the game boiling from end to end, Newcastle's Nick Woltemade was twice denied by keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Barnes missed an open goal much to the dismay of the home fans.

He made amends as the game burst into life just after the hour mark, however, picking up the ball from Bruno Guimaraes on the edge of the box and arrowing home a shot at the foot of the left post.

The visitors were not behind for long, Ruben Dias equalising five minutes later with a deflected drive after Newcastle failed to clear a corner.

After an underwhelming start to the season, the home fans may have feared another collapse, but Barnes reacted quickest after Guimaraes headed against the crossbar two minutes later to hook Newcastle back in front.

Newcastle endured a lengthy wait during a VAR check, but images showed the arm of Dias ensured Guimares was onside in the buildup and the goal stood.

Newcastle defended superbly through more than eight minutes of stoppage time to hold on for a win the left them 14th in the table on 15 points, and Barnes was delighted to have played a decisive role in the game.

Arsenal, who play Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, lead the standings on 26 points, four ahead of third-placed City, who have played a game more. Newcastle climbed to 14th.

Chelsea close gap on Arsenal

Chelsea

Goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez earned Chelsea a 2-0 victory at lowly Burnley on Saturday, a win that moved the Blues within three points of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Despite the visitors struggling to find their rhythm early on, Neto arrived at the back post to put Chelsea into a 37th-minute lead, an advantage they never looked like relinquishing.

The hosts rallied in the second half but did not create one opening of note, with Fernandez slamming home the second goal late on to seal what will be one of Enzo Maresca's side's most comfortable successes of the campaign.

A third straight league win moved Chelsea up to second on 23 points behind London rivals Arsenal, who host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

With high-profile clashes against European giants Barcelona and Arsenal up next, Chelsea gave key midfielder Moises Caicedo a rest. However, the visitors looked disjointed in the Ecuadorian's absence in the first half.

Burnley has been a happy hunting ground for Chelsea, who travelled to Lancashire in search of their seventh successive league win at Turf Moor.

Burnley's third straight defeat -- all to London sides -- leaves them struggling on 10 points from 12 matches.

Fulham

Promoted Sunderland suffered only their third Premier League defeat of the season as Raul Jimenez's late goal gave Fulham a 1-0 win in the driving rain at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Surprise packages Sunderland looked set to grind out a point but Jimenez broke the deadlock in the 84th minute as he slid in to convert a superb low cross by substitute Samuel Chukwueze

It was hard on Sunderland but a fair reward for Fulham's persistence as they carved out the better chances.

Sunderland dropped to sixth with 19 points while Fulham eased up to 14th with 14 points after a second league win in their last seven matches.

Bournemouth rally to hold West Ham

Bournemouth

Bournemouth substitute Enes Unal scored a minute after coming on to secure a 2-2 comeback draw with West Ham United, cancelling out Callum Wilson's first-half double as the hosts remained unbeaten at home in the Premier League this season.

Bournemouth, who have won four and drawn two home league games this season, moved up to seventh place, one point above Tottenham Hotspur who visit leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

The visitors seized the lead in the 11th minute when keeper Alphonse Areola delivered a long ball to Wilson, who chested it down and drove home a right-foot shot from outside the box.

The ball skidded on the rain-soaked surface and although Bournemouth keeper Dorde Petrovic got his hands to it, he could not keep it out.

West Ham doubled the lead 35 minutes when Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott tried to clear a free kick but it fell to Jarrod Bowen and his header found Jean-Clair Todibo who set up Wilson.

Wilson controlled the ball with his chest before pivoting to dispatch a left-footed half-volley into the top corner.

Areola kept out Scott's low shot just before halftime and denied Ryan Christie, but Bournemouth got their first goal after 69 minutes when Max Kilman's handball gave them a penalty.

The heavy wind caused the ball to roll off the spot but Marcus Tavernier kept his cool and slotted it past Areola.

The hosts renewed their efforts to get even and Turkey forward Unal, playing his second game since being sidelined for over nine months with a knee injury, equalised in the 81st minute from Marcos Senesi's through ball.

Bournemouth, who had 28 shots while the visitors had managed only five, went all out looking for the win, but had to settle for a draw.

West Ham, in the relegation zone since September, climbed out of the bottom three but are level on points with 18th-placed Leicester City.
