The 1992 basketball "Dream Team", alpine skier Picabo Street and sprinter Michael Johnson headlined the list of inductees into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday.

Also included in the 2009 class are five-time Olympic basketball player Teresa Edwards, sprinter Willye White, swimmer Mary T. Meagher, Paralympic skier Sarah Will, alpine skier Andrea Mead-Lawrence and Olympic gymnastics coach Abie Grossfeld.

Peter Ueberroth, who was head of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics organising committee and later became chairman of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) will enter the Hall as a special contributor.

The Dream Team brought together some of the best players of all-time, including Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, when NBA players were first allowed to compete at the Olympics. The U.S. easily won the gold in Barcelona.

Street won the Olympic gold medal in the super-G at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games and was the first American to claim the World Cup downhill title.

Mead-Lawrence skied at three Olympics, including the 1952 Oslo Games where she won gold in slalom and giant slalom and remains the only U.S. woman to win two skiing gold medals at one Winter Games. She died on March 30, 2009 aged 76.

Johnson won four gold medals in three Olympics but is best remembered for his performance at the Atlanta Summer Games when he became the only man to accomplish the 200-400 metres double, winning both races in world record times.

Meagher won three gold medals in swimming, winning the 100 and 200m butterfly and swam the butterfly leg in the 4x100 medley relay at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

Induction ceremonies will take place on Aug. 12 in Chicago.
