The chairman of the Organising Committee of the Delhi Commonwealth Games Suresh Kalmadi and Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive officer Mike Hooper finally seemed to have buried their differences.
There was a lot of mudslinging between the two as India struggled to get the Games ready on time last month. But it seems after successfully hosting of the Games, everything seems to be in order.
Hooper pointed out that the differences proved helpful as they both were working towards putting together successful Games.
"It has been clearly well documented that we have had differences but those differences have not been between Mr Kalmadi and Mr Hooper but those differences have between the OC and the CGF over the preparation, implementation and delivery of the Games.
"I have always said that my focus will always remain on delivering for the athletes and that myself and Kalmadi wanted the same result and that is a good Games," Hooper said on Thursday.
He further added that the athletes had praised the facilities at the Games Village and also the competition venues.
"I think from the reports received from the athletes and other officials have consistently said that the food, transportation, competition have gone very well," the New Zealander added.
Kalmadi also took the opportunity to thank the Commonwealth Games Federation president Michael Fennell and his deputy Hooper.
"I finally thank the CGF for supporting and guiding us. Me and Mike Hooper have had a few tiffs, but a difference of opinion is bound to happen when you host such big Games," he said.
The Indian Olympic Association president said the experience from hosting such a mega-event would hold them in good stead in the future.
"The important thing is that we now have a set of people who understand what the Games are all about and that is a good sign for the future," Kalmadi said.
The Delhi Games OC chief also claimed that all the athletes will go back satisfied and with some happy memories.
"There were apprehensions earlier but I hope they have disappeared. The whole Games were built around the athletes and the athletes have really enjoyed themselves. We have spoken to most of the athletes at the Games Village and they are happy with the set-up, the food and entertainment. They have enjoyed their stay there and they will go back with great appreciation for India," Kalmadi added.
