The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday morning raided the residences Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi in Delhi and Pune following allegations of misappropriation of funds in the organisation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The raids on his residence at Kamaraj lane in Delhi began in wee hours of Friday and are likely to continue till the evening.

The Congress MP's Karve Road residence in Pune too was raided by a seven-member team of sleuths..

Besides Kalmadi, the premises of his personal secretary Manoj Bhure is also being searched.

The raids comes days after it was reported that crucial documents which could throw light on deals of the Delhi Games had gone missing. The probe agencies fear they could have been destroyed.

A few weeks back the office and residences of Lalit Bhanot, secretary-general of the Games Organising Committee, were raided. The investigating agencies claimed to have seized documents to prosecute both Kalmadi and Bhanot.

The ongoing raids are expected to unearth more evidence against Kalmadi in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the conduct of the mega sporting event in October.

Interestingly some convicts of Tihar jail had made a sensational disclosure that jail officials provided them country-made pistols and other equipment to liquidate three officials of the Organizing Committee -- Sanjay Mahindroo, T S Darbari, M Jayachandran, all are currently lodged in the high security prison.

The CBI had earlier lodged two separate cases against these former OC officials.

The first case, registered under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, pertained to the award of contract to AM car and Van Hire Limited for various functions related to the conduct of the QBR, preceding the sporting event.

They were?booked under sections 468 (forgery of court records and public documents), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.

The second case involves A M Films.?The probe agency had named Patel, Mahendroo, Darbari and others under sections 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
