The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India on Wednesday has granted an NOC (no objection certificate) for the registration of the newly-formed boxing federation, in addition to depute an observer for the federation's elections.

"Sports Ministry grants NOC for registration of Boxing Federation of India, will depute observer to the Federation's elections," the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said.

The new Body, to be known as the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), will most likely to hold elections on May 8, which can be deferred if they failed to complete their registration formalities by the date.

Earlier, the Indian Boxing Association (AIBA) and the AIBA-appointed ad-hoc committee, which are currently governing the sport in the absence of a federation, had set May 14 deadline for the formation of the new boxing federation.

In case the BFI fails to take shape by deadline day, the country's boxers could face expulsion from the Rio Olympics in August.
