The top seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Canadian Daniel Nestor was ousted from the Chennai Open ATP Tennis tournament after suffering a defeat at the hands of the unseeded Russian-American pair of Raveen Klaasen and Nicholas Monroe in the doubles quarter-final in Chennai on Thursday.
Bhupathi-Nestor, the favourites to win the title, lost 4-6, 5-7 to Klaasen-Monroe in 75 minutes in the late night encounter.
Klaasen and Monroe, who won the first set convincingly, combined well in the second to wipe a 0-3 deficit and then went on to win the set and the match at 6-4, 7-5.
The Indo-Ukranian pair of Somdev Devvarman and Sergiy Stakhovsky will play their quarter-final against Thai brothers Sanchal and Sonchat Ratiwatana on Friday.
