India clinched the badminton team championships for both men and women with identical 3-0 victories over Sri Lanka in the final at the South Asian Games in Colombo on Tuesday.

In the women's section, Trupti Murgunde, who had won the singles gold earlier, launched India's final campaign in style scripting a 21-10 21-11 win over Thilini Jayasingha.

Singles runners up B R Meenakshi then made the scoreline 2-0 with a 21-12 21-7 win in the next match.

Krishna Deka Raj was stretched to three games before she sealed the title battle coasting to a 21-14 15-21 21-17 victory over Nadeesha Jayantha.

The men's title duel saw Indian shuttlers getting the better of Sri Lankan brothers -- Niluka and Dinuka Karunaratne -- in the singles.

However, it did not exactly turn out to be a cakewalk for top Indian shuttler Chetan Anand.

Anand, world number 21, was tested by Niluka Karunaraje who played an inspired game before a sizeable crowd at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

After conceding the first game 11-21, the home favourite rallied to take the second 21-8 but went out of steam in the decider which the Indian bagged 21-17 to put his team ahead.

The second singles though was won comfortably by Pune boy Nikhil Kanetkar, who carved out a straight 21-10 21-16 victory over Dinuka Karunaratne.

In the doubles, Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar made short work of Thushara Edirisinghe and Duminda Jayakody 21-12 21-8.
