Indian shooters could have done much better than winning just eight medals at the Guangzhou Asian Games last month, Beijing Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra said.

After a rich haul at the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games here, where they had won a record 30 medals including 14 gold, India shooters' show in Guangzhou was a let down and Bindra admitted that the shooters could have won more medals.

"We could have (done better) but that's how it is -- someday you win, someday you lose," Bindra said on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday.

Abhinav BindraAthletes supported by Mittal Champions Trust were felicitated for their exploits in the Asian Games where Bindra teamed up with Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput to clinch the team silver in 10-metre air rifle event.

Expectations have been on an all-time high thanks to the Indian shooters' excellent performances over the last few years, including the Delhi CWG, and asked if the squad buckled under pressure, Bindra said, "There is pressure in every sport. Pressure to perform is there on any athlete competing at the top level."

Asked about Sunny Thomas' decision to resign from the post of national coach after having served for 17 years, Bindra said, "Sunny Sir has been there for so long and he has done so much for the sport. Obviously, all the shooters would miss his services."
