Young Indian motor racing star Armaan Ebrahim's career received a huge fillip as he finished in the top ten in the gruelling GP2 Asia Series in Sentenul, Indonesia, on Sunday.

After his senior compatriot Karun Chandhok achieved a podium finish in Dubai last month, it was the turn of 18-year-old Ebrahim to complete the race for a ninth place finish, 14.556 seconds behind first placed Fairuz Fauzy (Super Nova), who clocked 45min, 20.990 secs. Just over five seconds later, Chandhok finished 13th, timing 45 min, 25.966 secs.

With heavy rains rendering the track completely wet, the safety car had to be brought on.

Drivers found it difficult to get a clear view during the whole race with muddy water splashing on to their windscreens.

It was a spectacular finish for the youngest driver on the grid, particularly on his maiden season in one of the toughest events held under the agies of FIA.

The JK Tyre, Speed, Amaron and Elf-sponsored Chennai boy was elated as he was able to finish in ninth spot.

"After a horrifying first race yesterday, it is a fantastic feeling to finish among the top ten today in only my second race. I am quite confident I can be right up there with the best in the world below Formula One," Ebrahim told PTI.

Claiming he would be able to gain more experience by putting in some more track time, Ebrahim said he was still getting used to the car.

"With some more track time, I will be able to gain in experience. I am now looking forward to Sepang next month."
