Barcelona star Gerard Pique and his Colombian pop star partner Shakira have found themselves at the centre of a storm. The pair, though, have denied claims they have been blackmailed over a sex tape by former employee.
Spanish newspaper Diario Vasco claimed that the Barcelona defender and Shakira were threatened with the dissemination of an intimate video of the pair if they don’t part with a 'significant sum'.
Pique's agent also denied the claim.
A source close to the Barcelona player told the Mirror: “This is a very random report and completely untrue.”
Blackmailing is a serious criminal offence in Spain which is punishable by jail term, according to article 243 of the penal code.
This news comes just two weeks after Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was formally charged in connection with an alleged sex tape blackmail plot against French team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.
