Anand to Ashwin: Sports stars mourn death of Karunanidhi

Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) president M Karunanidhi died, in Chennai, on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.

Social media was flooded with messages in tribute to one of Tamil Nadu’s most popular politician.

 

Sports personalities from all the country took to Twitter to pay homage to the former chief minister.

The legendary Viswanathan Anand, expressed deep sadness over her death in a series of tweets. “Saddened to hear the passing of Respected M. Karunanidhi. One of the greats of Tamil politics. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times in my career. When I first became World Champion , he felicitated me & presented me with a chess set that I cherish."

"A patron of sport and achievement. I have always admired his speeches and his eloquence. My deepest condolences to his family," he tweeted.

Cricketer Ravinchanran Ashwin tweeted, “It's sad to hear about the demise of Dr. M. karunanidhi, may his RIP and my condolences to his family and friends.”

VVS Laxman wrote, “I convey my deepest condolences to family members and admirers of #Karunanidhi ji on his demise. RIP”
