AIFF meet on constitutions

The All-India Football Federation task force on development of the game will meet in Delhi next week to consider ways of standardizing constitutions of state and national bodies.

The AIFF has been forced to consider a uniform constitution following the Asian Football Confederation's insistence on the same.

The task force, set up as part of AFC's Asia Vision program to elevate football standards in countries like India, has already ratified a formal proposal on a uniform constitution.

"The Delhi meeting, to be held anytime between June 1 and 4, will get down to the actual business of amending constitutions to standardize them," Subrata Dutta, a member of the AIFF task force, told rediff.com.

The AFC suggestion for a uniform constitution was made keeping in view some state bodies' practice of accepting individuals as members instead of their district units, which should be the "proper constituents".

Several state body constitutions also allegedly are not in keeping with AFC and FIFA recommendations.

"A uniform constitution will standardize the state and national bodies' constitutions to attune with AFC and FIFA recommendations," Dutta said.
