Days after eight-year-old Tajamul Islam scripted history by becoming the first player ever from the sub-junior category to win a gold medal at the World Kickboxing Championship, another Kashmiri boy has made the country proud.

Hashim Mansoor, a six-year old boy from Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, has emerged as yet another young star from the region after winning a gold medal in the Asian Karate Championship held recently at Talkatora stadium in New Delhi.

He clinched the gold in the sub-junior category (below 25kg) after defeating his Sri Lankan opponent in the final.

"I am very happy to win this medal. I had been practising for this since last one year, It was difficult, but I still won the fight," a delighted Hashim told news agency ANI after his achievement.

Mansoor, after this win has now qualified for the World Championship, to be held next year in September.

His coach also expressed his happiness after the win. "It is a huge thing to win this Championship as there are not much resources for sports in Kashmir; Hashim faced a lot of hurdles to reach here," he said.
