A capable squad, Paraguay is coached by Cesare Maldini, an
Italian. On their day, they can be a revelation and surprise
the mighty. They caused a sensation in the qualifiers by
defeating Brazil.
Essentially, a defensive team, Paraguay has inducted fine strikers
into the side. However, the bench strength is suspect and it may
prove their undoing. They have the luck of the draw, being pitted against Spain, Slovenia and South Africa.
Goalkeepers:
Jose Luis Chilavert, Justo Villar, Ricardo Tavarelli
Defenders:
Francisco Arce, Pedro Sarabia, Carlos Gamarra, Celso Ayala, Juan Carlos Franco, Julio Cesar Caceres, Daniel Sanabria, Denis Caniza.
Midfielders:
Roberto Acuna, Estanislao Struway, Guido Alvarenga, Carlos Paredes, Diego Gavilan, Carlos Bonet, Gustavo Morinigo.
Forwards:
Richart Baez, Roque Santa Cruz, Jorge Campos, Jose Cardozo, Nelson Cuevas
