Dharmveer Choudhary got things going for India, followed by Manu TS and Jay Kumar, before national record holder Vishal TK took over for the anchor leg.

Vishal received the baton in fourth and produced a strong finish, overtaking Japan to move India onto the podium.

Just a day after breaking PT Usha's 400m hurdles record, the Indian produced a sensational final leg to help India win the women's 4x400m relay gold.

Kiran got off to a slightly slow start, handing over in third place. Veteran Poovamma then surged forward to put India in front, with Prachi keeping them in a strong position before handing the baton to Vithya.

And then she took off.

Behind her, the formidable Salwa Eid Nasr was hunting down the field, picking off runner after runner. The girl from Coimbatore held her nerve and powered home for gold.

Gulveer Singh completed a hat-trick of individual athletics medals at the Asian Games, winning bronze in the men's 5000m with a superb run of 13:32.75.

He finished behind Bahrain's Birhanhu Balew (13:30.79) and Japan's Tomonori Yamaguchi (13:31.43).

Gulveer Singh only second Indian male track and field athlete to win three medals in single Asian Games edition.

Meena smashes national record, misses out on medal

Dev Meena signed off his Asian Games campaign on a high, clearing a personal best and national record of 5.50m to finish seventh in the men's pole vault.

The 22-year-old cleared the height on his second attempt, improving his own national record. It was a strong showing for Meena, who has only recently started competing internationally at this level.

Kuldeep Kumar, the other Indian in the event, cleared 5.35m and finished 10th.

Volleyball: Indian men edge Qatar 3-2 in a thriller!

The Indian men's volleyball team continued its winning run, eking out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Qatar to register its third victory and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Asian Games on Tuesday.

The Indian team bounced back from being two sets down to defeat Qatar 26-28, 25-27, 25-23, 25-20, 24-22 in a marathon Pool C match, which lasted two hours and 47 minutes.

All the four quarter-finals will be played on Thursday.

India had earlier defeated Vietnam 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) and Hong Kong China 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) in their opening two matches respectively.

Against Qatar, Jerome Vinith scored 27 points for India, all coming through spikes, while Amit Singh Balwan scored 24 points -- 22 from spikes and two from blocks.

Joel Benjamin Jebaraj also made double-digit scores with 17 points -- 14 from spikes, two from blocks, and one service point.

Asian Games: India bow out of track cycling medal races

The Indian track cycling teams bowed out of the medal races in the men's and women's team sprint events and women's team pursuit competition at the Asian Games on Tuesday.

In the women's team sprint, the quartet of Celestina, Sarita Kumari, Keerthi Rangaswamy and Triyasha Paul clocked 50.431 seconds in the first-round heat.

Chinese Taipei finished ahead in 49.504 seconds to move into the medal race for the bronze.

In the men's team sprint, India's Rojit Singh, David Beckham, Ronaldo Singh and Jemsh Singh clocked 44.374 seconds in their first-round heat.

China won the heat in 42.348 seconds and moved into the gold medal race against Japan.

India also failed to progress to the medal races in the women's team pursuit.

Harshita Jakhar, Pooja Danole, Meenakshi and Swosti Singh finished fifth and last in qualifying with a time of 4:45.151s and competed alone against the clock in the first round.

Ankush Panghal ended India's eight-year wait for a male Asian Games boxing finalist while Parveen Hooda stormed into the 65kg gold-medal bout with a commanding victory on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Narender Berwal signed off with a bronze after bowing out in the 90kg semi-finals.

Parveen defeated China's Li Shu 5-0 before Ankush produced a stirring comeback to out-punch reigning 75kg world champion Uzbekistan's Fazliddin Erkinboev 4-1 and book his place in the 80kg summit clash.

Narender, however, went down 0-5 to reigning super-heavyweight World champion Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan in the last-four stage.

The bronze is Narender's second at the Asian Games after he also finished on the podium in Hangzhou in 2023.

Ankush came from behind to out-punch reigning 75kg World champion Uzbekistan's Fazliddin Erkinboev 4-1 to book his place in the 80kg final.

Ankush is the first Indian male boxer to enter the Asian Games final after a long wait of eight years.

Indian boxers have already bettered their four-medal haul from the previous edition, with six pugilists securing medal-round entries.

Neeru Dhanda scripted history at the Asian Games on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian women shooter to win the gold medal in the trap individual event.

The 26-year-old from Haryana, who became the first Indian woman to win a World Cup gold medal in trap event at the Shotgun World Cup in Italy in July, won the gold with a score of 28, surpassing the previous Asian Record of 24.

No Indian woman trap or skeet shooter has ever won an individual medal at Asian Games.

This was Neeru's second medal of the day. She had earlier bagged the silver in the women's trap team event.

The Indian women's squash team blanked Iran 3-0 in its last group-stage match to progress to the quarter-finals at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Tuesday.

Starting the proceedings, Tanvi Khanna was declared the winner after her opponent Narges Soltani retired while trailing 5-11, 0-3 in the first singles.

Anahat Singh, who won a silver in the individual event, then saw off Fereshteh Eghtedari 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-7) to give India an unassailable 2-0 lead.

In the third singles, veteran Joshna Chinappa, who also won a bronze in the mixed doubles event, prevailed 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-9) over Najmeh Boushehrizadeh to complete the 3-0 win.

India had defeated both China and Japan in their first two matches of Pool C.

India thus finished at the top of the table. They will face Singapore in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The Indian women's shooting team secured a silver in the trap team event to continue the country's medal-winning run in shooting at the Asian Games on Tuesday.

The trio of Neeru Dhanda (118), Aashima Ahlawat (106) and Manisha Keer (104) finished with a combined total of 328 to finish second behind gold medallists China (346).

The Chinese team comprised Liu Shanshan, Sun Yunong and Zhu Jingyu.

Kuwait's trio of Alhawal Shahad, Abdulmalik Hajar and Alhawal Sarah bagged the bronze medal.

Neeru also qualified for eight-shooter final after finishing as joint topper along with Qatar's Ray Bassil at 118, which is a qualification Games record.

Ahlawat and Keer finished at the 16th and 23rd spot in individual event.

India to face Sri Lanka in men's cricket semis

India's cricket players in Nagoya.

The Indian men's cricket team will face Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the Asian Games after the island nation's quarterfinal against Nepal was abandoned due to inclement weather in Nagoya on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka made it to the last four owing to their higher ranking. While they are placed ninth in the team rankings, Nepal are 14th.

There has been consistent rain in Nagoya over the past few days, leading to all four quarter-finals, including India's, being washed out.

Pakistan will clash against Bangladesh in the other semi-final after the latter's quarter-final against Malaysia was also abandoned because of rain.

Both semis are set to take place on Thursday.

The Indian men's team, led by Shreyas Iyer, is yet to play a game at the Korogi Sports Park, which also hosted the women's competition won by Harmanpreet Kaur and Co.
