India keen to avenge 2024 defeat

image
Hello and welcome to the coverage of the Women's T20 Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium.

The stage is set for another India-Sri Lanka showdown, with continental supremacy and unfinished business adding extra edge to the Asia Cup final.

India enter the title clash unbeaten and in commanding form, but the memories of the 2024 final will remain fresh.

Sri Lanka stunned the Women in Blue in that summit clash, and India now have an opportunity to settle the score and reclaim the crown.

India's campaign gathers momentum

India have swept aside every challenge on their way to the final. They began with a convincing win over Thailand before Smriti Mandhana produced a devastating display against Hong Kong.

Their bowlers then dismantled Pakistan in the group stage, while Bangladesh were comfortably beaten in the semi-final.

Shafali Verma has been one of India’s leading performers, tallying 168 runs, while Mandhana’s explosive outing has further strengthened the top order.

India’s bowling attack has also been among the tournament’s most consistent units.

Sri Lanka eye another upset

Sri Lanka have followed a similarly unbeaten route. They brushed aside the UAE and Indonesia before edging Bangladesh in a tense final-over finish.

In the semifinal, they chased down Pakistan’s modest target to book another final against India.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu remains their key all-round threat, having contributed 63 runs and 11 wickets. Nilakshika de Silva has added 86 runs, while Harshitha Samarawickrama leads their batting charts with 89.

Dubai conditions could decide contest

The pitch is unlikely to make life easy for the batters.

The ball has gripped the surface and occasional uneven bounce has made stroke-making difficult.

Spinners could again play a major role, with visible signs of turn expected to influence the contest.

Match starts at 8 pm (IST).
