Spain was eyeing the Davis Cup final after David Ferrer (in the pic) defeated Andy Roddick in a five-set thriller to give the home side a 2-0 lead over defending champions United States at the end of the first day of their semi-final.

Roddick, who hit 23 aces to the Spaniard's 10, appeared to have the match under control after he overwhelmed Ferrer in the second and third sets.
But Ferrer unexpectedly broke the American in the first game of the fourth to set the match alight again.
"After that (third set), he definitely raised his level," Roddick said of Ferrer.
