Liverpool signed Spanish winger Albert Riera from Espanyol on Monday, the Premier League club confirmed.
The 26-year-old, who had a brief spell in England with Manchester City, has agreed a four-year contract although no details of the transfer fee were disclosed.
"Riera has the qualities we were looking for," Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told the club's website (www.liverpoolfc.tv).
"He's a left footer who normally plays on the left wing, he's good in the air, strong, powerful and a good crosser of the ball. He also had offers from other English clubs but he said no to them because he wanted to come and play for us.
"That means a lot to me because it shows the commitment he has to play for Liverpool."
Earlier on Monday Liverpool's Ireland defender Steve Finnan moved in the opposite direction, agreeing a two-year contract with Espanyol for an undisclosed fee.
Riera, who has been capped five times by Spain, joins Brazilian 18-year-old Vitor Flora at Anfield after the young striker joined from Botafogo on a free transfer.
Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is also leaving Liverpool after joining German club Hertha Berlin on loan.
