Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes will be out of action for around 10 weeks after injuring knee ligaments during Tuesday's 3-0 win over AaB Aalborg in the Champions League, his club said on Wednesday.
The midfielder left the pitch on a stretcher after 15 minutes and United said on their website (www.manutd.com) that a scan revealed medial ligament damage with an approximate 10-week recovery period.
Scholes missed three months of last season after undergoing knee surgery.
United could also be without Wayne Rooney for this weekend's Premier League trip to Blackburn Rovers after he injured an ankle on Tuesday.
