Somdev acknowledged that to end the collegiate career like that was very special as he was not just playing for himself but for Virginia for the last time as well for his teammates and coaches.

Was he confident of victory?
"I just played the match," he said. "I usually do not try to think of the results before I start serving on court. I was just excited to be in the finals."
"I knew it was going to be last college match and so I would not expect to win or anything. I was there just to play."
The win was his 18th career NCAA Singles Tournament victory, extending his record for most individual wins in the current tournament format.
