Gokilavani won her first gold medal at the sub-junior nationals in Lucknow in
June 2003, and at the sub-junior World Cup in Delhi that same year she won
a silver. She then won the All India Inter-University gold medal for four
straight years (2004-07).

A two-time silver medalist at the junior National Championship, in 2005 and
2006, she won the yellow metal in her third attempt in 2007. She followed this up with a silver at the senior Nationals.
Honours at the international stage followed.
After a bronze in the Commonwealth Championships in Newcastle in 2005, four
gold medals in the Asia Championships in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) last month laid the foundations of what seems will be an illustrious career.
