Local favourite Gael Monfils reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final when he defeated Croatian 28th seed Ivan Ljubicic 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Parisian will be the only Frenchman in the last eight at Roland Garros, following the fourth-round defeats of Julien Benneteau, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Jeremy Chardy and Michael Llodra.
He will have the opportunity to become the first Frenchman since Sebastien Grosjean in 2001 to reach the semi-finals of the French Open, the local crowd has been waiting 25 years for Yannick Noah's successor as a champion.
"It is fabulous, incredible, I am deeply moved. What is coming next will also be beautiful," Monfils said.
