The delay in installation of floodlights at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, has forced the state's football association to ask the All Indian Football Federation to shift Dempo's AFC Cup quarter-final to another venue.
This is a big blow to India's National League champions, who are scheduled to play their AFC Cup home match against Singapore's Home United on September 16.
Savio Messias, Goa Football Association secretary, is extremely disappointed on missing out hosting a high-profile match.
"I have no option but to inform the All India Football Federation to shift the match to any other venue. We cannot have the match on September 16 as scheduled as the lights will not be ready," Messias said.
Messias blamed the state government for the delay.
"I have persuaded the matter with the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) director Prabhudesai.. but the government has been unable to act and get the floodlights ready.
"The AFC officials are due for a visit at the end of August to inspect the Nehru stadium, and the deadline to have the lights in place expires on August 16," he said.
