Basketball Without Borders
July 9, 2008
Sadly, Vishesh's story is one all too familiar for Indians. He's been a diehard basketball fan for seven years, but at age 16, while his foreign counterparts train full-time for a future in the sport, he's already saddled with a job in the Western Railways. He's excited for the employment opportunity, and will play on the company's basketball team, but certainly won't have access to the type of training and experience his talent deserves.
"I'd love very much to play for the Indian National Team," he said. "And maybe, one day, I could play in the NBA. But that is just a dream."
With an increased interest in basketball, India is working to turn that dream into reality.
