Volatile Russian Marat Safin reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time with a dogged 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Spain's Feliciano Lopez.

After a rollercoaster career, he said: "I'm surprised that I'm still here."
"I started to think I lost it completely because of the way I played the last year," he said.

Now all he has to do is beat five-times champion Roger Federer to reach the final. Safin was realistic, however.
"To beat Federer you need to be Nadal and run around like a rabbit and hit winners from all over the place," he said.
