East Bengal on Wednesday appointed Subhas Bhowmick as coach for the remaining of the 2008-09 season which will see the club compete in the final leg of the I-League.

East Bengal sack Stanley Rozario

Formally announcing this at a media conference, East Bengal president Pranab Dasgupta said this comes with immediate effect and the club will announce their new coaching staff following discussions with Bhowmick.

"Bhowmick has been appointed coach with immediate effect. Presently, he is holidaying at Shantiniketan and will join the club on Friday. We will have a discussion whether he wants new coaching staff or will continue with the present set up," Dasgupta said.

With curtains coming down on Rozario, his coaching staff that included goalkeeping coach Debashis Mukherjee and assistant coach Mridul Banerjee also put in their papers on Wednesday.

For East Bengal, this is the third coaching change in a year. Aloke Mukherjee, who guided the team in the AFC Cup was replaced by Manoranjan Bhattacharya who then made way for Rozario after a disastrous third-place finish by the red-and-golds in the IFA Premier Division League.

"At East Bengal, players depend a lot on the coach. So when the team is not performing well -- especially after the Federation Cup setback -- we decided to change our coach.

"However, we have conveyed this decision to Rozario and we will do the final settlement after the Christmas holidays," Dasgupta added.
