Ajax Amsterdam confirmed on Tuesday they are in talks with Real Madrid about the transfer of striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar but said no deal had yet been agreed.
The 25-year-old Dutch international, who is recovering from an ankle injury, was linked with a move to Spain in the January transfer window to replace compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.
"Ajax is in talks with Real Madrid about the potential transfer of Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the Spanish club. At the moment there is no deal between the clubs," read a statement posted on the club's website on Tuesday.
According to media reports on Monday, Real Madrid are willing to pay 20 million euros ($25.22 million) for Huntelaar, whose Ajax contract expires in June 2010.
Huntelaar, who joined the club in January 2005, has scored 76 goals in 92 league matches for the Amsterdam team. He has also netted 10 times in 18 appearances for his country.
