Australian Lleyton Hewitt was involved in a record-breaking doubles match on Monday when he and partner Chris Guccione beat Agustin Calleri and Juan Monaco of Argentina 4-6, 7-6, 18-16.
The match, which lasted three hours 17 minutes, surpassed the record amount of games in a best of three set men's match at the Olympics since tennis returned to the Games in 1988.
The previous record also belonged to Australians when Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde beat Dutch pair Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis 6-2 5-7 18-16 in 1996.
Earlier in the day Hewitt beat veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman 7-5 7-6 in the first round of the men's singles.
