Mumbai F C registered their fourth successive victory in the second division of the ONGC I-League, beating Oil India 3-2 in a Cluster III match at the Sahu stadium in Kolhapur on Monday. The victory put them on top the table with 12 points.
Mumbai FC shot ahead in the 15th minute, Sanjay Parte's 40-yard right-footer sailing into the corner of the net.
But Oil India, who needed to win the match to make it to the next round, equalised in the 30th minute when a combined move between Aaron Cole and Francis Maduako saw the latter scoring.
In the second half, both teams strove hard to get the lead, but it was Mumbai FC who troubled the scorekeeper first, benefiting from a penalty.
In the 72nd minute Jagdish Pappiah's measured found Alex Ambrose in the box and in a position to score, but he was brought down by Oil India's Raju Conwar. The foul resulted in a penalty and Ambrose himself stepped up to score from the spot with ease.
The lead lasted just a minute as Oil India's Aaron Cole scored with a well-struck header to equalise.
But after Felix Abogaye missed another scoring chance for Mumbai FC, they got the match-winner in unusual circumstances in the 81st minute. A move between Abogaye and Ambrose ended with the latter crossing the ball. However, a deflection by an Oil India defender saw the ball beat their goalkeeper.
