Former world number one Lindsay Davenport won her eighth consecutive match on the comeback trail by beating Russian Elena Dementieva 7-6, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the China Open on Friday.
The American, who marked her return by winning the Bali Classic last week, stormed back from 3-1 down in the first set to win the first set in a tiebreak.
Fourth seed Dementieva made too many errors in the second set and bowed out with her 12th double fault of the match.
"I was happy to win," said 31-year-old Davenport, who has her three-month-old son Jagger with her in Beijing.
"Elena returns so well but she doesn't have a great serve. So I stayed positive and tried to win back when I was broken."
Dementieva said she was surprised by how fit Davenport was following a year out of the game.
"It was a really tough match and it was very difficult to play against a good receiver like Lindsay," said the world number 15.
"She put a lot of pressure on me, especially on the second serve."
Davenport will meet second seed Jelena Jankovic for a place in the final after the Serbian beat Japan's Akiko Morigami in their quarter-final.
"I'm a little bit tired but there's no question about my body. I'm excited to come back and I'm having a lot of fun," said Davenport, who beat Jankovic in Bali last week.
"I don't know what ranking I'll be at the end of this year. I'll try to go on undefeated."
World number three Jankovic played through a dizzy spell to overcome Morigami 6-3, 7-5 and take her place in the last four.
"I was feeling dizzy towards the end of the second set but somehow I managed to win," said the 22-year-old.
"I'm happy to be in the semi-final. It doesn't matter who is on the other side of the court -- if I didn't want to win I wouldn't be playing."
Hungarian sixth seed Agnes Szavay beat Argentine Maria Emilia Salerni 6-2, 6-4 in their quarter-final and will meet the winner of the last match of the day between third seed Amelie Mauresmo and local hope Peng Shuai.
