Andy Roddick and James Blake will lead the United States team in this month's Davis Cup semi-final against Sweden in Gothenburg.

U.S. captain Patrick McEnroe said the duo would be joined by the world's top-ranked doubles pair, Bob and Mike Bryan. John Isner and Sam Querrey will travel with the team as practice partners.

"Sweden have a great history in Davis Cup. They always play well and usually play above their rankings, so we certainly expect a tough match," McEnroe told reporters at the U.S. Open on Tuesday.

"For me the number one thing is for (our) guys to be eager and well-rested, because they have played a lot over the last few months."

As the home team, Sweden have the choice of court surface and surprisingly opted for fast indoor courts.

With their top-ranked player, Robin Soderling, a doubtful starter because of a wrist injury, Thomas Johansson and doubles specialist Jonas Bjorkman are expected to spearhead the Swedish challenge.

"I think part of the reason they picked fast indoor courts is to give them more of a chance in the doubles against the Bryans."

The U.S. have not won the Davis Cup since 1995 and McEnroe said his team needed to play better during away ties.

"I think Andy has done a great job of that over the years actually, but I think that's the next step for James," he said.

"It's my job to get the best out of him away from home."

Holders Russia take on Germany in the other semi-final in Moscow.

Both ties will be held from September 21-23.
