Mumbai FC, the city's newest community-based football club bolstered its arsenal with three foreign signings, who were introduced to the media through a meet and greet session at the Cooperage Football Ground on Thursday.
Ghanian professionals Ahmed Felix Aboagye (striker), Michael Osei (striker), and James Cobblah Dissiramah (defender) are the three contracted by Mumbai FC to help them this season.
"Our immediate aim is to make the Super Six of the Elite Division and we are confident of achieving that with our three new signings, who have played at the highest level," said former international and Mumbai FC general manager Henry Menezes.
Mumbai FC is currently enjoying a dream run in the Elite Division of the Mahindra Mumbai Football League, having won four games on the trot, and that too by some huge margins. After the opening match reverse against RCF, Mumbai FC have made huge strides, routing BMFC 7-0, Indian Navy 5-0, Union Bank 2-0 and Dena Bank 6-0.
Of the three, Ahmed Felix Aboagye is a prolific goal scorer, having banged in 61 goals in a career that has seen him play for top clubs, like Ahly of Egypt, Liberty Professionals of Ghana and Olympiakos of Greece. He has also been part of the Ghanian national team, representing them in the African Cup.
Michael Osei, another striker had the distinction of playing along side Chelsea's Michael Essien, when representing Ghana in the under-17 World Cup in 1999, a tournament Ghana went on to win. He too has represented top clubs and was currently playing with Liberty Professionals, a Premier Division club in Ghana.
The third player is defender James Cobblah Dissiramah, also from Liberty Professionals. All three players have played under coach David Booth at some stage of their career and are looking forward to justify his trust in them.
"We have currently got a good mix of young talent and senior experience in the team and the inclusion of these three players will add character. They have all played football at a high level and will help in improving the level of the other players. I have important roles in mind for them and am confident that they will soon become an integral part of Mumbai FC," said Booth.
Menezes added, "We had to take into consideration a lot of factors, but most important was whether the styles of the players would fit into our scheme of things and how soon would they adjust to the conditions here. After going through a host of foreign players, we zeroed in on the current three and I wish them a long and fulfilling stint at Mumbai FC."
