Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton ended Ferrari's domination of French Grand Prix practice with the fastest time in Saturday's final session.
The 22-year-old McLaren rookie lapped the Circuit de Nevers in one minute 14.843 seconds, 0.063 quicker than Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was third quickest. He and Massa had each topped one of Friday's sessions with Ferrari looking more competitive than in the previous three races won by McLaren.
While the Briton went top in the last session before seeking a third pole position in a row, double world champion and team mate Fernando Alonso spent most of the session in the garage with mechanics swarming around his car.
McLaren said there was a problem with a brake sensor and they had decided to replace the system as a precaution. The Spaniard finally made it out to complete four laps with the eighth best time.
Renault showed signs of progress for their home race, as they had confidently predicted, with Finnish rookie Heikki Kovalainen fourth and Italian Giancarlo Fisichella fifth.
Hamilton, winner of the last two races, leads Alonso by 10 points after seven rounds of the championship. McLaren are 35 points clear of Ferrari.
