A dazed Haas admitted there was little he could do to slow down the Gonzalez juggernaut.
The German 12th seed had disposed of top-10 players David Nalbandian and Nikolay Davydenko on the way to his third semi-final appearance at Melbourne Park, but the irresistible force of Gonzalez proved overwhelming.
Haas's hopes of a first grand slam final disappeared in a blaze of Gonzalez winners, and the German felt as helpless as Andy Roddick had been against an equally imperious Roger Federer in the first semi-final on Thursday.
"I just have to hand it to him, tip the hat and say that's too good tonight," said Haas after losing his third Australian Open semi-final.
"Pretty much everything he touched tonight seemed to go his way. I felt at times that I didn't even play badly. Every time I tried to do something differently he came up with the answer."
