Newly crowned Australian Open champion Serena Williams will join her sister Venus in the United States' Fed Cup match against Belgium in April, US captain Zina Garrison announced Thursday.
Injury-plagued Serena, formerly the world's top player, has raised her ranking from 81 to 15 following her triumph in Melbourne last month.
"We are thrilled to have Serena back on the US Fed Cup team, especially after her tremendous victory at the Australian Open," Garrison said in a statement.
"The last time both Serena and Venus were on the court for a US Fed Cup team was 2003, so it will be an exciting time to see the sisters together again."
The US will face Belgium in a World Group quarter-final tie in Delray Beach, Fla., on April 21-22. Garrison has until 10 days before the quarters to name the other two team members.
Serena Williams is 6-0 overall in Fed Cup play, 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
