Zidane, Ronaldo clash again for charity
Igor Andreev earned Russia a consolation point by crushing doubles specialist Bob Bryan 6-3, 7-6 in the first reverse singles match before American number two James Blake beat Dmitry Tursunov 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final rubber.
The US had clinched the team title by establishing an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five tie when the Bryan brothers won Saturday's doubles at Memorial Coliseum to earn a record 32nd Davis Cup.
Andy Roddick put the victory on par with his 2003 US Open title.
"It's definitely on par with anything that I've accomplished in tennis," Roddick, 25, told a news conference after the Americans had clinched their first Davis Cup success since 1995.
"You know, Davis Cup probably doesn't get as much recognition as it should.
"But to have shared in the last seven years, and it wasn't really a seven, eight-year process to try to win the US Open. All of a sudden I was on tour and it happened before it knew it."
