Fifth seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia marched into the second round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Japan's Aiko Nakamura.
The French Open runner-up needed just 62 minutes to beat the world number 49 and set up a second-round clash with Aravane Rezai of France.
Ivanovic, who beat Nakamura in the second round last year, dominated the match from the baseline, never allowing the Japanese time to settle.
