Top seed Amelie Mauresmo survived a second-set wobble to beat Italian Mara Santangelo 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 and reach the US Open fourth round on Sunday.
The world number one trailed 2-0 in the final set but found her game when she needed it most to clinch a hard-fought victory in just under two hours.
