India's Sania Mirza, who begins her campaign at the French Open on Tuesday, dropped two places to be ranked world number 40 in the latest WTA list released on Monday.
The 19-year-old returned to the courts last week at Istanbul after a three-week break to recover from a wrist and lower-back injury.
She bowed out of the US $200,000 event in Istanbul, Turkey in the singles second round after a 6-4, 1-6, 2-6 loss to Michaella Krajicek of The Netherlands. But she made it to the doubles finals of the event along with Alicia Molik of Australia.
France's Amelie Mauresmo retained her world number one spot (3272 points), with Belgian Kim Clijsters close at her heels on 3048. Former champion Martina Hingis, who returned to the elite list with the Italian Open triumph, fell one place to 15 in this week's rankings.
