Croatian Mario Ancic and Chile's Paul Capdeville were fined $3,000 each on Thursday for a spat at the end of their second round match at the French Open.

The pair pushed and shoved each other on Wednesday after Ancic won, and umpire Roland Herfel had to step in to break it up.

Capdeville had complained about linecalls throughout the match and, on match point, was upset when Herfel ruled he had not reached a drop shot from Ancic, the 12th seed, before the second bounce.

Capdeville said his problems were with the umpire.

"I talked with the umpire (after the match) because all match he, for me, made so many mistakes," Capdeville said.

"Ancic, he said, 'Shut up. What are you doing? All the match you spoke'.

"I said, 'Why you tell me that?' And he pushed me.

"I never have a problem with Ancic. I have problem with the umpire because in the points so important, he make mistakes."

Ancic said he had seen Capdeville in the locker room after the match and there was nothing left to be said.

"Everything's fine," he said. "I think it was not a really big deal. Everything that happened maybe was in the action of the match, but everything is fine now."

The fines were the second largest handed out to date at this year's French Open.

Russia's former world number one Marat Safin was fined $10,000 for refusing to attend a press conference after his first-round defeat by Chilean ninth seed Fernando Gonzalez.
