A roller coaster of emotion

Dortmund: Coach Juergen Klinsmann flies off the bench in shock and disappointment as Italy, with two extra-time goals in rapid succession, ended the German dream.

Join the Italians!

German great Franz Beckenbauer has requested the 40-year-old coach (once, one of Germany's most skilled footballers) to stay on and 'finish the task' by the next World Cup in 2010. As Germany's coach, Beckenbauer lost one World Cup final (1986), but returned to win the Cup four years later. Klinsmann was a member of that winning side, scoring three goals.

Klinsmann lives in Newport Beach, California, USA, with his Chinese-American wife and two kids. He traveled back and forth between Germany and California for the assignment, attracting much criticism in the German media. Those voices have been effectively silenced now. Juergen was quite amazing the way he directed his crew to better and better performances.
