Lady luck smiled on the Indian grapplers as Yogeshwar Dutt bagged an unexpected bronze medal in the Asian Games freestyle wrestling event at the Asian Games in Doha on Wednesday.
India's Saurav Ghosal also secured a bronze after he went down in three games to top Malaysian rival Ong Beng Hee in the semi-final of the men's squash event.
Dutt, who had lost both his bouts including the repechage like his colleagues, got an opportunity to play the bronze medal play-off because of the limited number of entries in the 60 kg category.
The 22-year-old Dutt prevailed over Kazakhstan's Bauyrzhan Orazgaliyev 3-1 in the bronze-medal match, swelling India's medal haul to one silver and three bronze medals from the wrestling arena.
Two other grapplers in the freestyle category -- Narasingh Pancham Yadav (74 kg) and Narender (96 kg) could not make much of an impact as they lost their quarter final and repechage rounds at the Aspire Hall.
Yadav first lost to Korea's Cho Byung kwan 1-3 managing just two technical points and one classification points against his fancied opponents who had seven technical points and three classification points.
In the repechage, Yadav lost to Kazakhstan's Abdulkhakim Shapiyev 1-3 to bow out of the event. Yadav bagged three technical points and one classification point while the Kzakh had four technical points and three classification points.
Dutt also suffered a similar fate in the men's 60 kg freestyle category as he went down to Korea's Song Je Myung 1-3 in the quarter final and to Qatar's Abdulqader Omar 0-3 in the repechage.
In the men's 96 kg section, Narender had no clue against Iran's Ali Reza Heideri who recorded a comfortable 3-0 win. In the repechage round, Narender lost by an identical margin to Kazakhstan's Taimuraz Tigiyev.
The Kolkata-born Ghosal lost the 41-minute clash 1-9, 2-9, 9-6, 4-9 against a far fitter and faster rival.
Ghosal had got the better of compatriot Ritwik Bhattacharya in the earlier round.
Earlier, Joshna Chinappa had lost 9-3, 9-1, 9-2 to Hong Kong's Wing Yin Chiu in the quarter-final.
