India are assured of a medal at the Asian Games tennis event after the women's team cruised into the final after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead against Uzbekistan in Doha on Wednesday night.

The team, comprising Sania Mirza and Shikha Uberoi, will take on Taipei in Thursday's final.

While Sania, ranked 67th in the world had an easy outing, Shikha had to sweat it out before quelling the spirited challenge of Akgul Amanmuradova with a hard-fought 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory in a marathon tussle that lasted 189 minutes.

Sania hardly had to break a sweat in the second singles, getting the better of Iroda Tulyaganova 6-3 6-0 in 54 minutes.

In the other women's team semi-final, Taipei defeated a spirited Japan 2-1.

In the men's team semi-final, Japan got the better of Thailand 2-1 while Korea prevailed over Taipei by an identical margin.
